St Francis Church of England School

Community Projects

At St Francis CE Primary School, each year group engages in a social action or community project of their choosing at some point in the school year.  The aims of these projects are:

  • To expand our curriculum beyond the academic, i.e. personal development, character education, community values and life skills.
  • To prepare our pupils to play an active role as responsible, respectful and active citizens within groups, community and society.
  • To build meaningful curriculum links which engage pupils with community and social issues.
  • To support pupils’ understanding and application of our school values and British values in broader contexts.
  • To provide pupils with enrichment opportunities which further promote values of equality and inclusion.
  • To empower children as agents for change.

 Waste-2-Taste

We are proud to be collaborating with Waste-2-Taste, a local Community Interest Company committed to tackling climate change by reducing food waste through the use of surplus, high-quality ingredients.

Waste-2-Taste have kindly shared their food knowledge with our school community by running cooking workshops with our children (and parents too). During these sessions, the children have learned how to create amazing dishes using surplus ingredients that would otherwise have gone to waste.

We have been treated to incredibly healthy and super-tasty food, which the children are very proud of. In addition to running the workshops, Waste-2-Taste have produced a recipe book featuring all the dishes the children have created, so they can recreate them at home and continue their learning beyond the classroom.
