Gods and Mortals
Driver Subject: History
From nothingness came chaos; from chaos came air and water; from air and water came life. Then, rising majestically from the darkness, came Gaia, Mother Earth, a beacon of warmth and light. Meet Theseus, the hero, and Helen of Troy, the beautiful face that launched a thousand ships. Explore the terrains of Greece, where in pure blue skies, the Sun scorches waxen wings and melts the fortunes of Icarus and Daedalus. Then decide your own fate when a mysterious box is found and stirs your curious mind.

Blue Abyss
Driver Subject: Science
Grab your wetsuit. We’re going deep into an underwater world of incredible coral and mysterious sea creatures. Head to your local aquarium and learn about life in the ocean. Can you pick a favourite fish, plant or animal? What do real divers get up to below the surface? Create a fishy story about exploring an amazing underwater world. Time to go a little deeper into our seas. Make a model deep sea submarine that can withstand great pressure and travel to the deepest, darkest places on Earth. Make sure you test it first. What are those bright lights in the distance? It’s a group of bioluminescent sea creatures. Look closely and create a colourful, 3-D art exhibition when you rise to the surface. Flippers on? Snorkel ready? Let’s head into the Blue Abyss.
Term 3
Flow
Driver Subject: Geography
From humble beginnings, the river flows down the mountain and into the sea. Pull on your wellies and wade right in. How deep does it go and how fast does it travel? What soil types can you find by the river? Which animals make their homes there? Let’s get down to the river bank and find out. Now hop on an imaginary boat and travel some of the world’s most majestic rivers – the Ganges, the Thames, the Amazon and Nile – and keep a journal as you follow their course. Time to investigate. As part of the local news team, it’s your task to track down the source of some mystery pollution. Where did it come from and who is to blame? Let’s meander through the world of rivers, taking a dip into their watery world.
Term 2
Burps, Bottoms and Bile
Driver Subject: Science
Open wide – let’s take a look inside. We’re on a voyage of discovery to investigate the busy world inside your body. Do you have a toothy grin or a winning smile? Take dental impressions and test the effects of sugary substances on your pearly whites. Follow a tasty morsel as it makes its way through your digestive system, helped by some mouthwatering saliva. And don’t forget the importance of good hygiene at both ends. And whilst we’re talking business, could you recognise an animal just by its poo? Are you brave enough to take the challenge? Make a working model of the digestive system and use it to persuade others to eat healthily. Learn how to look after this marvellous belching, squelching, mixture making machine we call our body.

Cornerstones Project: Urban Pioneers
Driver Subject: Art and Design
Hop on the bus and take a trip downtown where the lights are bright, and every street has a story to tell. Explore with fresh eyes the art of the city, then capture a moment in time – perhaps a reflection on a building or a shadow passing by. Make a map of your home town and find out how things have changed. Has time changed town life for the better? How could you improve the urban environment? Maybe add more colour? More light? More things to do, or perhaps a plaza with a comfortable bench or two? Or maybe, like Emil, the city astounds you with its sights and sounds and people rushing by. Now light up the city with creations of your own – a statue, a light show, a monument or street art. The possibilities are endless so what will you choose? You’re an urban pioneer, so get ready to go!
Term 2
Cornerstones Project: Mighty Metals!
Driver Subject: Science
You’re an engineer, a scientist, a maker of men (iron men, of course). Explore the scientific world of forces and magnetism, metals and materials. Expand your mind as you test and trial, build and move. Which force is at play as you slide down a slide or swing on a swing? Can you explain why magnets repel and attract? Can you make a penny look shiny and new or build a steel band from pots and pans? Then, meet Hogarth the Iron Man’s companion. The Iron Man wants a friend. Can you build him one? You must make him strong, sturdy and ready to rumble! If you were a metal, which one would you be? Gold, a shimmering, precious and costly mineral? Or steel, that strong and useful alloy? Maybe you’re iron, malleable and easy to shape, but ready to rust! Maybe you’re not a metal at all – but a force to be reckoned with!
